About Us
A Diverse and Inclusive Community
Welcome to St Joseph Syro Malabar Catholic Mission of Hudson Valley, New York. We are a vibrant community of Malayalee Catholic families residing in the Hudson Valley, New York. We felt the desire to establish a Community to preserve our identity and to inculcate the tradition to our children. Our core values derived from a rich heritage which is rooted in the culture, traditions and beliefs of the centuries old Catholic Community in Kerala, India. We meet Sunday for Holy Mass (Qurbana), followed by an informal social gathering. We welcome you to our dynamic and ever growing Community. May St. Joseph, the patron of our mission intercede for you and your family.
All are welcome!
Our Story
The Syro-Malabar Church is an Apostolic Church in India which traces its origin to the Apostolate of St. Thomaswho, according to the tradition, landed in India at Kodungallur in 52 AD. He established the Ezharappallikal, or “Seven and Half Churches”. These churches are at Kodungallur, Kollam, Niranam, Nilackal (Chayal), Kokkamangalam, Kottakkayal (Paravoor), Palayoor (Chattukulangara) and Thiruvithamcode Arappally (Travancore) – the half church. The Syro-Malabar Church is one of the 22 sui iuris Oriental Churches in Catholic Communion with its own particular characteristics expressed in worship, spirituality, theology and disciplinary laws. The early Christian community in India was known as St. Thomas Christians.
In the course of history this Church entered into life-relation with the Christian communities which came to be known as the East Syrian Church. This relationship made the Thomas Christians share the liturgical, spiritual and other ecclesiastical traditions with the East Syrian Church. At the same time St. Thomas Christians kept their distinctive character especially in Church administration and socio-cultural and ascetico-spiritual life. In the 16th Century with the arrival of the Portuguese, a new era began in the life of this Church, i.e., the latinization of its liturgy and the efforts of the St. Thomas Christians to free itself from this situation. In the Nineteenth Century this Church was designated as the Syro-Malabar Church in the documents from the Roman Curia under which name it is known today.

We value the Lordship of Jesus Christ!
We acknowledge Jesus Christ as the head of our church and fully submit ourselves to His will. In every aspect of our ministry our goal is always to honor and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.
We value Bible-centered Preaching and Teaching!
We believe the Bible is God’s inspired authoritative and trustworthy rule of faith and practice for Christians. Therefore, we submit ourselves to its teaching, commit ourselves to do what it says, and yield our lives to become what Christ desires for us to be.
We value Prayer!
We believe in the power of prayer. Therefore, the ministries and activities our church will be characterized by a reliance on personal and corporate prayer in all areas of our lives and ministry.
We value Evangelism and World Missions!
We believe in the Great Commission commanded to us by Jesus Christ and we are committed to reaching unsaved and unchurched people locally, nationally and worldwide. We will use every available Christ-honoring means to pursue, win and disciple the people in our sphere of influence.
We value the Family!
We believe God ordained the family to glorify him. We are committed to cultivate an atmosphere which promotes spiritual growth within the family by reaching families with the gospel, discipling them in Christ-like character and teaching each family member how to fulfill their God-given role.
you are always welcome here!
